The Gothic Catharsis 101: the Journey through Gothic Subgenre
The overall purpose of this thread is to inform and archive the music of the Gothic subgenre of music. whether it being in Industrial, Metal, and Classic Rock, for those who wish to pick up new music for their library let's going into a quick and broad description of the subgenre.
What is Gothic Music/Subgenre? [Brief History]
Gothic Music is known for it's very dark undertones, atmospheric music, and scything guitar sounds with very simplistic drum play. in the early days the original sound was thrived from Punk rock music, and as time went on it evolved and was later fused with other types of music, such has heavy metal, black metal, industrial music, and neo-classical music. The earliest bands to incorporate this particular sound were bands, "Bauhaus", "The Cure", "Joy Division" "The Doors", and "Siouxie and the Banshees" in the late 1970s and early 1980s. the name "Gothic" was of coursed thrived from the type of classification of building architecture. which was popular during medieval times and was very dark, and was used primarily for church and religious buildings.
More's to come. also for the record, Depeche Mode never really did Gothic Music, they just so happen to be popular amongs people who live that "Alternative/Goth Lifestyle".

by that logic, Marilyn Manson does gothic music, when he really does Heavy metal and shock rock. Eat Me, Drink Me, was the big exception.. that was a bonified gothic rock album
