So, I guess I'll give this whole build log thing a go.
A friend of mine was asking who I know that would be able to build a computer for him to game on, hit laptop isn't cutting it anymore. I said I would do it, for a fee, and he agreed. The goal he has with the build is to help keep the system cleaned easily and play games on a 27" monitor. Budget was about $1500, give or take. I just finished ordering everything, and here is what the build is going to look like.
Case: Corsair Obsidium 250D
Motherboard: MSI Z87I Gaming AC MiniITX
CPU: Intel Core-i5 4670K
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Siedon 120XL with push/pull configuration
Memory: 8GB HyperX Fury 1600Mhz
SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 770 w/4GB DDR5
PSU: Corsair CSXM 550-watt Semi-Modular
OS: Windows 8.1 OEM
I put this together with what I would want for myself in mind, and he liked the thought of a small footprint on the desk since he has one that you can go from sitting to standing with. All-in-all, I think it's going to be a good build, now it's just a matter of getting everything in so I can start the build.
As parts come in, I will get pictures added. I must say, I am looking forward to this build, it should be a fun one.
Thanks. Ever since Asus came out with their ROG miniITX board, and others started to follow suite and have full fledged, feature packed boards, and case manufacturers started making some nice cases, I have really liked the idea of the small footprint of the system too. I'm really looking forward to seeing just how well it turns out in the end.
So, I got the case in today from UPS and picked up the 770, i5, PSU and Windows from Microcenter today. Shipping shows the rest of the parts should be here in the next few days. Waiting on shipping is a pain, needless to say.
UPS dropped off the extra fans, SSD, HDD, and RAM today. Just waiting on the motherboard and the CPU Cooler at this point. Looking like a Friday evening or Saturday build session will be in order. Once I have everything in I'll get pictures up.
So, the build has begun. Spent time this evening taking a ton of photo's, I want to have as much as possible so I can use to start working on a profile of sorts, getting everything in order, and making sure I have everything I need.
I also spent some time making sure RAM, board with CPU and SSD installed would POST, good there. Got some shots of the UEFI, I like it.
Tomorrow will be spent doing the actual build, getting OS installed and some games to run it through it's pace's so that Sunday I can burn it in. You know, Unigen running for a few hours, some CPU burn ins, storage burn-ins, all that fun stuff.
