The Elder Scrolls Online: Success or "Wow ripoff"?

Video about the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxJTsq2XeKY

So, The Elder Scrolls Online is supposed to come out some time this year and the question which many Elder Scrolls and MMO fans are probably asking themselves is "Will this game be the next best thing in the MMORPG genre or will it just be a generic WoW ripoff like many other MMORPG titles?" To answer this question, we can compile a list of both pros and cons which will more than likely be included in the game. (Taking information from the video)

Pros:

*Large gameplay environment (The majority of Tamriel)

*Mostly unique pvp system and it is widely available to most players.

*Dynamic combat system. (Click and swing your sword rather than click and wait for your character to attack)

*Amazing graphics for an MMO

*Amazing soundrack (Assuming that the video is using music from the games' soundtrack)

*Seems to be a big focus on playing with friends

*Not locked into one specific class

Cons:

*The latency may not good for players outside of the US (Assuming that the "Mega server" is located in the US)

*May be too graphically intence for low end PCs

*There could be potential balancing issues in PVP

After reading this list you guys can make your decision about the game, or wait untill some solid gameplay shows up. Also please feel free to reply with feedback, coments or just simply put forward your own arguments about how this game could turn out.

tl dr; You guys decide if this game could be the next best thing or just another failed "WoW ripoff"

I enjoy the game, could care less what some misinformed "game journelist site" says

Personally I can't wait for ESO to be released. I've always thought that every Elder Scrolls game I have played needed an online feature. Of course some fan boy will say it will be "ruined" if they had Multiplayer. Still I'm stoked for this game.

I used to play Runescape for seven years up until its latest update. This looks like the type of thing that will bring me right back into the MMO genre. Well, if I can run it, that is!

I am not interested in Elder Scroll series at all. Personally, I think Skyrim is a garbage. But I have to protect the Elder Scroll here. How exactly do you define a "ripoff"? So if the game is bad then it is a ripoff, otherwise not? Winner takes all and writes the history? Is Doom a ripoff of Wolfenstein 3D? Is every other FPS game is a ripoff of Wolfenstein? I do not understand your point.

I think, other MMO's already have covered what an Elder Scrolls Online would. Maybe the whole first person type deal and how you can search bodies and are more interactive to the game will differ it from all the others though.

I'm really looking forward to this. I've been a fan of TES since Morrowind. I'm sure the mechanics won't be that far removed from WoW or GW2. Where I think this game will excel is in the story. The world is massive with heaps of lore and background information. So with that, and an interesting interpretation of MMO mechanics, I think they'll really be on to something.

I am looking forward to this game - personally, I think WoW is a terrible game, too focussed on the MMO Triangle (Tank-Healer-Damage).

I would define a ripoff as a game which almost copies another game in the sence of both mechanics and asthetic style. Doom took Wolfenstein's mechanics and improved upon them greatly, aswell as adding a completely differend asthetic style. An example of a ripoff of World of Warcraft would be the game "Aeon Online" which uses practically the same mechanics and asthetic style without many improvements. Another example from the FPS genre is Medal of honor's latest title being a complete ripoff of the Call of Duty series. I do not however, believe that the Call of Duty games are good games. I am simply stating that the developers of Medal of honor took Call of Duty's mechanics and implemented them into their own game without any significant improvements or changes. Now i'm not saying that a ripoff of another game will necessarily result in a bad game in all cases, it just generally does most of the time. The main problem is that developers look at the most popular game in the genre and think that it will be a good idea to use those mechanics in their game. So rather than inovation with new ideas, we get games which are very similar to eachother, because of this we have phrases such as "a generic FPS" and "a generic MMO".

A few of those links on those sites contain informative interviews with the developers based on the game's mechanics. Don't be hatin bro. (Unless it's IGN)

Yea pvp looks very inovative and unique. Only one server should be great if it doesn't have a latancy problem.

Yea Jagex made a few bad design choices with their updates. (New combat with a heavy Wow influence)

Stealth mechanic in an MMO should be interesting too

Yep. I think dynamic combat could be the new MMO standard after this game.

Yea definately. I like the fact that they are giving you a huge amount of freedom in terms of character and class. I imagine that all you will be able to do at the start is choose your race and what you look like. Then build your class based on your playstyle. (Much like skyrim)

Elderscrolles fan, Probably going to skip this one.

Fishman be fishin' under that bridge for angry replies.
