The death of the mid range computer? My ass!

Heres a video I made in commentary. (it should be finished publishing in like 2 minutes). Hope @wendell @DeusQain and @Logan have a look. If not, oh well :(

Hardware elitism is retarded. And with the mention not only by tek syndicate, but by others as well, of the "Death of the mid range computer", I think it should be really looked into why this sort of thing is being labeled.

I think Qain and Wendall and Logan should look into who uses what. Why they use it, how they use it; do interviews with hardware hackers. I can only really give examples from myself because I only know a couple other hardware hackers on IRC, but I think it should be noted that mid range isn't just an i5. On the contrary mid range is wore akin to a dual xeon 2006 Mac Pro, an amigaone X1000, some atom laptop with a nvidia optimus that can do 60 FPS league of legends. My phenom box. All this should be looked at and taken down. Theres no death of the mid range, nvidia and intel just won't shut the fuck up.

Edit: It was asked to see where The Tek says this.
This is kinda the lead up but it all kinda groups together. I wanted Wendell's mention of his 12 core 780T made out of that asus server in there to hark on my point as well.

Will jump in on this after work, @FaunCB or who ever, mind throwing up a timestamp link from that Tek episode?

Is that a suitcase computer?
Seeing that picture makes me want to give that a go myself...

Hehe, well thats not exactly what mid range means around here :P but yeah, 480 is mid range and everyone wants to compare it to a 1080. Thats a point I missed in the vid, along mith that the FX chips were never meant to be high end anything, but rather that they were making high clock speeds and lots of cores available to people who wanted that but couldn't afford 1700 USD for whatever intel pulled out of their ass.

Is it just me or was the audio off by about 2 seconds?

Great response video btw.

I think you're right about the mid-range pc never dying. It would be impossible since there will always be yesterday's hardware laying around and resourceful people can always find some way to use it.

I interpret the "death of the mid-range pc" as meaning that the distribution of hardware usage is compressed to use more of "today's" hardware and less of "yesterday's" hardware. This implys that people who build pcs are more likely to buy bleeding edge hardware than to use more modest/affordable options from last release cycle.

Again, I don't interpret this as ALL mid-range enthusiasts such as yourself are gone; it just means there are fewer these days.

I blame OBS. It does that.

Unless you want to be the best guy in da hood there is no need for overkill builds. hardware manufacturers want you to change the hardware every year so they can grow, if hardware wont be outdated software tricks will make it.I have a wide variety of systems from atom cpu to 40 core systems and every single one is planned and does everything it needs. The whole magic is to make belive you need an upgrade so the sales will provide increase in market shares values. Its the feeling of pressure from the media and enviroment will make some people to upgrade despite the actual need.If its a tendency they will push further by creating a new way of texture filtering (and sponsor some developers to make it real ) to prove their point. I used a 486 dx4 for 5 year till i wasnt able to use it anymore. I wasnt able to get a new machine because hardware costs were impossible to bypass. If psychological pressure is not enough there is always a way to 'force' your way.
Im trying to finish my monster gaming rig for a year and a half now (5960x and 3x titan x ) and i realised after 6 months that i dont need to :) I`ll do thatin the and but there is no rush now.I have few shelves of games that will run in dosbox or winuae. There wont be any hardware breakthrough for consumer market because the economy dictates it.it is not worth it ( i remember the media fuss when samsung introduced 3d nand that was supposed to be cheaper to make, yet ssds are still expensive and the situation is even worse, everybody is replacing their mlc products with cheaper-to-make tlc drives for the same price ).Game industry is so creative that i find myself playing old games more often than new ones (30 gbp for maximum of 8 hours of game including cut scenes and loading times). If you dont need it dont upgrade and ignore your guru saying otherwise. heh everybody seems to hate consoles beacause of blabla bla yet a lot of people dont need anything more. Go buy your self a triple sli system so you will have to disable 2 of your gpus for the game to rum better because dev decided to use 8 year old engine made with the purpose to run on console.
But the market has given the position to hardware manufactures to dictate their turns in one way or another.
Some people forgot where their real position and dependency is and force you to forget that your money matters.Psychological approach is more effective than brute force and lets make sure you feel inferior and dependent is the way to make the buissiness ,they treat buisness clients as their equals and regular customer like a cow they can milk every year or twice a year (depends on individual 's ego or the real lack of it). If they cant sell their product they are nothing and they want you to think otherwise and make sure you dont think that way. TLDR resist the pressure.

DeWalt is always high end:)

Wife got me one last year. Cost more then my APU 7850K build which is very very low end

Exactly. I have an 8320 that I use for distcc. It makes my compiling twice as fast as the 6700k alone.

Look at a 9370 for a small jump from that. They're getting really really cheap. The boost clock would be good :P

That's amd? I'm good on that front. I've got it at 4.9ghz under water. That and I'm not currently in the market for new hardware. I'd like to see what amd releases for zen. I'm intrigued by their server chips they're teasing.

@Skelterz D: No post!

Oh my god, you've put my lunchbox computer to shame (not in performance)!
I just call it my lunch box because it's a little ITX case with a cute handle, but it's not actually built in a lunch box...this thing you've built....my god, I'd give up all of my performance to have this adorable little thing you built.

Behold, your fellow American midrange king (uxwbill). @FaunCB you should hook up with uxBill and swap DDR or something.

Or vwestlife or tech yes city or bishoppcm or Its My Natural Colour

Meh, I'd watch any computer build video TekSyndicate makes.
