So I recently invested in an RX 480. It's an amazing card, I play at 1920x1080 and it can pretty much max any game that you throw at it. I have noticed some issues though over the past few weeks particularly after updating drivers. Some games, particularly Overwatch and Gta 5 will crash very often when tabbing out. I am curious to know the reasons for this. I currently have an i5-4690k @ 4.0GHz and its stable. The RX 480 is also at stock speeds with compatibility mode turned off. Please note that compatibility mode does not affect these crashes as I have experienced them even with compatibility mode turned on. I am just curious to what you guys think about this and if anyone else has had any issues with their card. Thanks, Pat.
Have you tried Overwatch in borderless window?
yeah, the crashes still occur sadly. I think that it may be due to the Beta drivers though. I am currently using 16.8.2
Have you tried putting your CPU at stock? I know you said it's stable but might be worth trying.
I'be also had this happen with Witcher 3 and the RX 480s. It just closes without a crash warning after alt tabbing... it's infrequent still haven't pinpointed the cause but I'll be sure to give a shout if I do.
P.S. I'm running the non beta drivers
try to disable steam ui overlay
That's why the drivers are in beta, right? If you want it to be stable, stay on the stable release. By definition these issues will occur in a beta release. If you want to know why the issue happens, you're going to have to start with event and application logs, digging through error codes, and contacting the support teams for your graphics card and application vendor.
ill give it a go
