The "best" media for long term music conservation

To say a bit about everything that was said now:

  1. I decided on buying CD’s and ripping them. As nice as the vinyl artwork is, it’s just not worth the effort (Plus decent turntables are getting expensive. CD Players not yet).
  2. I rip to flac. Wav is nice, but i can’t tell a difference to falc (and there shouldn’t be one). If flac is found to be imperfect, or there comes something better around, i’ll just rip the CD’s again.
  3. With Metadata, i tend to go with double security. Embedded Metadata in the flac files and all the important information in filename and path. My Collection is Ordered like this: Musicfolder\Artist\ (Year) Album\ Track# Title.flac
That way i have most information Redundend and can find my stuff in Media player and Folder the same.

Solid plan for sure. Plus, with the FLACs you get all the metadata. Question is now where to put all those CDs?

Is no-one gonna suggest transcribing it to a gold plate, then store it in a low particle vacuum?
You could even share it with the neighbors, if you push it fast enough?
