Whats the best all around laptop for around $1000?
Wow, this question is so specific I got lost in the details...
"The best" laptop is highly subjective, and varies depending on needs (screen quality, battery life, performance, mobility, overall build quality, etc.). If you want a serious answer, you can start by specifying needs.
I was personally looking at the System76 Galago UltraPro. Again, it may not fit your needs.

well, i was looking for the best allround laptop for around that price, nothing to crazy like gaming or anything, just the best specs and build quality for around 1000 bucks....decent battery life etc etc.
That actually seems like a good setup. Other options are the Google Chromebook Pixel, ASUS Zenbook (UX31A and UX32VD), and the Macbook Air/Pro (non-retina). Hate the Macbook all you want, but it really is a good system. Hell, you can even run Windows or Linux on it if you hate OSX. That goes for thin and light laptops.
Gaming wise, it is hard to beat the ASUS G53/G55.
Overall though for Windows, I would put the ASUS Zenbook UX32VD-DH71 as top dog. Discrete graphics with the 620M, which will be good enough for casual light gaming, plenty of hard drive space with a hybrid SSD drive that should help boot and OS performance slightly, a good display, solid build quality, and of course ASUS quality hardware. Overall, I seriously think it is the best Windows laptop on the market for an all arounder in your price range.
