In some games like Battlefield 1 visual clutter can be so bad that lowering graphical settings is preferable if you want to have an advantage. That's shit game design if you ask me. I'm not playing at a level where winning or loses really matters... so I'll take the eye candy instead of the competitive advantage.

Fun fact - I have not played a multi-player game in 3 years... But I still prefer function over eye candy.
I'll jump on the band wagon...blang before bling is my credo. Refers to things other than games too, such as vehicles or computers.
