The 900 series is here, now how fast will you upgrade?

so the 900 series is here when are you getting yours?

i'm planning on getting mine within the next 2 weeks or so.

I might buy two 970s, not sure though.

Buying x2 970s to have around the house probably

I really don't care for the 900 series at all, actually the only thing I'm astounded of is the power-draw really. Deep down though I don't think people will care for the 980 I think people are going to care about the GTX 970 alot more. Cause its Dirt Cheap. $320 Dollars and Performance a tiny bit above the 780? say what you will but if I were AMD I'd be worried at least for now. They don't have anything to compete with the 980, however for the GTX 970, AMD can just drop prices of the Hawaii chips. But I'm really more excited for is AMD's answer to the 900 series cause NVIDIA really Hit AMD Hard with this Launch, Lets be Real here, The Prices of these Cards are TOO GOOD, and Aggressive. AMD has to develop a Card that is Faster than the 980 AND Cheaper than $550? Ohlawdhavemercy AMD you better Do something.

Stock GTX 970 at $300, and beats an R9 290.

Oh god I want to upgrade so bad.  I think I'll pick up a GTX 970 once I sell my 7950.

I'm saving up for a trip. I don't need it.  (Or do I?) ;)

When My brother buys his parts for his gaming PC, we are picking up a 970. When the 960 comes out then ill upgrade. Then ill probably wait to do a full system rebuild when K12 hits in 2016 and ill use an AMD card that fits the budget.

If things are as expected then probably. Though part of me just wants to make due with my 280x and get guitar stuff.

Looks like the 290 is holding its own, so I'm good. Gonna get off the Am3+ platform soon, thank odin.

I'll wait for 280-dollar 290s.

i assume if the GTX970 is realy going to beat the 290, which i still doubt, then AMD will hopefully pull out theire new Bermuda XTX 390X very soon :D

The reviews are already out.

I just hope AMD does not panic and put out a crappy response as Microsoft did in response to the PS4. AMD, just wait, pace yourself and put out a genuinely superior product at a good price.

As far as I am concerned, nVidia isn't really appealing right now and there is  a specific reason for this. I am looking forward to adaptive sync at 4k. I am sure that that will be possible with nVidia as well, you will just have to go through their more expensive, limited options, G-sync approach.

The performance is really great on the new cards. The power draw really has me wanting to grab one, but adaptive sync 4k. Of course, as it stands, there aren't any such monitors out, so I will just have to be patient, and see how well it works in the real world (adaptive sync 4k benchmarks, review, tests, etc from third parties).

The real question is how long until Logan upgrades. I can see him doing that and maybe giving away his 780ti for the hell of it.

The GTX 970 is Faster than the 290, My Preference is AMD as well in the GPU side. Say what you will but you have to Admit NVIDIA hit AMD hard with this Launch. AMD would have to Drop the 290 to about $300 Dollars to Actually Compete until they drop the R9-295X or R9-300 Series which we have no clue about. The 970 is Absurdly Cheap and the Power-Draw is Absurdly low. Every AMD Fan's Nightmare has Come Alive. NVIDIA's Cards are Finally Cheap and Powerful.

With the 980 about 20% better than a 780 at $50 more than a 290 TriX and the 970 similar to a 780 at such a low price point, AMD is going to have to pull something amazing to compete. I think watercooled 290x maybe? Or drop the price on the 295x2 to compete. Like what they did with the 7990

Well... the 970 beats the 290x at about $330.

As techpowerup put it: "Oh, and AMD seems fucked".

I agree it would have been boring as hell if priced at 400. they probably would have gotten away with selling at that but still.

Too get to 4K I think you would need to go dual GTX980 heavily OCd to push 4K above 30FPS minimum on the most graphically demanding games, that is like 1.1K just on the GPUs. Or maybe Dual 970s (which seems to be the much better buy) with the graphics turned down one notch. Maybe you could do that with the 295X2, OCd and with the settings down a notch, perhaps, but that is still 1K and you will barely be pushing 30FPS I think.

TLDR: 4K not really going to happened, unless much $$$$$$$$$. Unless you wait for the 780TI replacements or the AMD cards.

Should both get 970s, the can sli next gen :D.
