I'm starting to think there's a retro PC bubble market. I mean, I know a lot of those machines were recycled, but there's not much software that's clock dependent on a 486 and won't run in fast forward on a Pentium II.
Wha? I have a plie of 486 machines what idiot thinks that is worth money lol.
Just take a look on ebay. It is shocking.
I could see that shit happening. Ocarina of Time is worth 15 bucks in cart but everyone wants 450 for it.
It's the same idea/problem/market as oldtimers (vintage vehicles) if there's a market for it, someone will supply it and at crazy costs at that. After a while most of the people with working vintage gear will follow the same trend and in no time all the old hardware has new imaginary value like an alternate form of currency.

Am I gonna be able to flip that old POS I got for free for this much? I kind of want to but my conscience is holding me back. But seriously it's got a knockoff soundblaster 16 they'd eat that up.
I still have an old 286 HP Laptop that's in mint condition.
But where I live(Southern Africa) people are not decadent enough to splurge $1000 on a museum piece.
Otherwise I might be tempted to sell it to a collector, but right now I am the collector.
