Anybody use any of these USB interface devices for nearline storage ?
I have an issue with one of my units and can’t quite tell if it is the spinning rust or the unit.
I’m leaning towards the unit as it can be resolved by turning off the device for a couple of minutes and powering it back on.
Basically one or more of the HDD’s will randomly go offline and the above trick resolves the matter.
Now to maybe put another wrinkle into this I have it, along with the other DAS units configured the following way:
They are connected to a USB3 HUB which in turn is connected onto one of the USB3 ports on the mini-PC
Pretty sure it is either a 5mb or 10mb port, can’t recall which but it serves me fine as the speed isn’t as much of a concern.
What I’m trying to correct is this random offline issue.
When the HDD comes back online I scan it to confirm the file system integrity and nothing seems to be found so hence it’s like the device gets powered down so to speak.
Any ides on this one ?
I will try connecting the device directly to one of the USB ports on the mini-PC and see if this helps.
Also the mini-PC is running Windows 11 Pro.
