The problem whit nuclear is that it's expensive to produce and you get stuck with the waste afterward. Fusion would the solution but we are still far away from it. And there is a lot of improvement in renewable energy, just look to the past 5 years. Plus if you include the cost of GES, then there is a net advantage for renewable. Yes, there is dip in the production with renewables, but those are previsible and reliable dips so you mix your energy sources production accordingly and also come out with solutions like this one.
