Temporary Downgrade in Internet Speed (Will I hate It?)

Currently my ISP is with Cable One using the 50mbps plan. As long as I can remember I've never had to deal with lower tier internet. That is going to change in about a week.

I'm going to be moving temporarily to a place that will have 12mbps speeds with AT&T's U-Verse setup. My question is will I want to shoot myself after making the downgrade and will I seemlessly be able to play PC games online such as Dota 2 (no. 1 priority game), LFD2, War Thunder, and other modern games? Like I said I've always had the top offered tier internet so I really have no idea what to expect.

Any of you guys out there with 10-15 mbps connections playing modern games like mentioned with no networking issues?

No. That's still considered high speed internet. Most parts of the world have 256 kb - 1mb/s connections and play just fine. I don't think games require more than 500 kilo but I could be wrong. Example of what I can do with a 10 mb/s connection: play lol + host a 5 man skype call + browse the web when I'm dead etc. all at the same time.

things i can do on a 6Mb connection simultaniously

  • game (untill recently bf3 was using all of that up, but it's since been fixed)
  • listen to pandora
  • have someone streaming netflix in the other room
  • (if i really want) have steam downloading things (slowly)

the only difference is the time it takes to download large files, most things use up fairly little bandwidth

Thanks guys, I appreciate the insight you guys are giving about what you can do with your connections. I think I should be fine for the things I do online then :)
