Telstra velocity fiber modem

Hey all

Moving into a new house and iv been informed that it is connected to the Telstra fibre network (Telstra Velocity)  and was wondering if anyone on here has had some experiences with it and can explain a few things.

I understand that the fibre carries all Internet, telephone, free TV and pay TV, and that it is all done through a modem device called the Network Termination Device and requires a SC/APC optical fibre connection. My problem is that Telstra has told me that I either buy one my self or rent it off them and I have no idea where to start looking for one of these things and what quality to look for or what even specs I need. From experience its always best to get your own then using there equipment but unsure if this is the same case.

So yeh is it best for me to go buy the best one possible that has both LAN and wireless capability, or just use the provided rented Telstra unit and buy a separate wireless router?

Screw telstra check out iinet or tpg. Telstra charge you like a wounded bull for fibre packages and their shitty hardware.

It's telstra velocity not NBN so I'm pretty sure I have no choice but telstra. It's only $99 for 200G at 100Mbps so I'm not complaining

but I agree with there shitty hardware. Hence why I'm asking this very question

agen I need advice on getting my own NTD

Its still just a FTTH connection. It is worth putting your address in the coverage bar in iiNet's page to see if you can get their plans.

Not sure what cable modem is provided, but there should just be an ethernet cable (or LAN port) coming out of an inside wall somewhere. Just connect that to any router that has a WAN port >> eg. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=200_1438&products_id=16374

So my router is used as the modem ?
