I'm very impressed with how far the Tek has come. The new gaming mouse is amazing, and hoping they make another version to come. I would love to see more done with peripherals for the community. I hope in the future we can have a full Tek set-up with keyboards, headphones, and mics.
Keep up the good work guys! Can't wait to see what more to come.
I think all of this stuff would take the guys a while to even consider, with them moving offices and everything, not to mention the time they'd have to take off making videos.
I understand they have had a lot on their plate currently, but things will soon even out. It is more of a future thought since they put so much work into making quality items. I'm currently saving for their DAC, and starting a new PC build. I love this community and Tek. I would like to continue supporting them in any way and I know that if they expand on their own products, they will continue to draw in more of that sweet currency to keep going.
@TartDread I don't think that would be costly effective to do. I would just replace some keys and wait to see what is to come. The mouse build they did and how quick the sales went, I wouldn't be surprised to see something in the future with keyboards.
well the market is already saturated with keyboards, they would either end up with one of these two things: Case A a WASDv2 clone (essentailly) Case B: a cheapo chinese board with the tek logo shoved on it.
theirs already plenty of no frills basic mechs at every price point.
it wouldn't make any sense.
same goes for headphones, we would pretty much just end up with something like the HyperX cloud 2s (chinese can with slgiht mod + new logo)
I actually agree. I am going back and forth between getting a mechanical keyboard and staying with my reasonably good membrane keyboard. If they go with Cherry MX, the price will be too high. If they go with cheaper Chinese options the quality won't be the same, and Logan stated about a trillion times, that he wants basic mouse with quality components, than feature rich mouse with mediocre quality. And the Chinese mechanical switches already have a really bad name, because they are not cherry... I guess.. People that use them say some of them are reasonably good for the price. And then comes the issue with the colors, and lights, and size, and features etc... Mouse is simple. Keyboard is way more difficult adventure.
I just think Tek should expand on peripherals simply because you can trust they are going to put intelligent thought into what they are making. I also don't mind paying a more premium cost from a group of people that enjoy quality and have yet let me down. I know that they money spent will be put towards their other projects, and it's people I admire and would like to see go further.
If this ever does happen, I think the wise thing to actually be different and warrant a place in the over crowded market it would be a good idea to not roll standard switches like red blue and brown, they are every where and there is a lot more choice out there, usually better ones too.
As a counter for all of those three I would like to see more on the lines of Grey Green and Clear switches, though blacks would probably make it in and that is more or less okay but choice is king, Other companies also make argueably better switches than cherry now like Gateron (who have also been known to spin custom switches for the community like the Zealios)
EDIT: The following list is NOT intended all to go in one board they are merely suggestions, people seem to be missing that point, the market all ready has a great many mechs to suit everyone's taste, these are just suggestions for feature that may make yet another board somewhat relevant.
Other things to set apart and that are completely doable would be: * programmable layouts, * switchable layers (would allow for simultaneous QWERTY, COLEMAK and DVORAK plus), * PCBs that have options for different bottom row layouts and like likes of ANSI/ISO (granted soldering on user end required), SIP sockets (this would drive the price up quite a lot just on labor though), * removable cables, * USB pass through, * headphone/mic pass through, * included USB to PS/2 adapter, * pre-programmed media controls and not the dedicated keys like on other boards have them under a FN key on a key (FN+[inset key here] for play pause, you get the idea, fits in with the programmable idea and in keyboard FN toggle keys are always nice to have), * built in volume roller (though both are nice in their own way I just prefer a keyboard to only have keys and not a cluster of non mechanical media controls bolted on so not super looking for roller just an idea),
Proving my point, that there is no point. I rather have no backlight, no programing, no shit keyboard, than all those features, costing as much as RX 480.
Not all at once, just many suggestions any of which could be of benefit. If you want a plain keyboard with some tek caps well both all ready exist, so there is no point to really contributing that same thing back into a market where it all ready exists.
