Tegile Conversion

Interested to see if anyone has converted a Tegile HA2100 to TrueNAS / Unraid or something similar.

We have an out-of-support Tegile we use for a work lab, but the BSD Linux on a controller is damaged and as many grub commands have been removed repairs are difficult to say the least. Looking to convert over to something more usable we can use with ESXi. It’s a 60TB array that’s bought and paid for so hesitant to give up on it.

Cheers.

Just try to boot a recent version of FreeBSD and/or Linux distro and see what gets detected?

Thanks @diizzy but as it is out of support we’d like to look at modernizing the software rather than repairing what is there. Common grub commands like ls don’t work and it makes it incredibly difficult to work on.

It has to boot from something, if you’re lucky it’s a DOM of some kind. You’ll likely need to open it up to see what’s inside. You may also need to connect some kind of video card to access BIOS etc.

Correct, I have a monitor hooked up to it and have access with a keyboard. Been working on this unit for at least three weeks now. The BIOS is set to a SATADOM and only boot supports hard drives and CDROMS. LiveUSB, USB devices or ISO’s are not supported or even recognized. The controller is at the grub prompt, but simple commands like ls are not recognized and there are checksum errors any time I run commands stopping boot recovery. We’ve had three very experienced people look at it and none can get past the grub.

Not given up yet. Trying to get a HDD with a Linux distro to run on it, but in the meantime I’m looking for alternatives. Something without as many hoops.

I guess the lazy/easiest way would be do make an image of the SATADOM (dd or something) in case something goes south. Install a full distro/OS on the SATADOM using another computer or just a boot loader that looks for a boot device and go from there.

Edit: …or just burn a disc with a distro/OS of choice
