Tailscale Exit Node Woes

I have a truenas scale machine with Tailscale running as an exit node.

I also have a Nextcloud and Plex instance.

Via my IOS device I can connect to Tailscale, connect to the exit node and see some things, like my Apple TV, the Truenas interface, and even connect to some SMB shares. So I know some of my traffic is getting to the LAN.

What drives me crazy is that it feels inconsistent.

Sometimes the Apple TV won’t connect, Sometimes shares error out when connecting,

The latest development is that my Nextcloud app cannot seem to hit the LAN. I can see what’s been uploaded but adding new content never syncs. Whether I’m adding from the IOS device or adding from a device that’s local already, if I’m connected to Tailscale on the IOS device it cannot seem to get local access.

Any ideas?

Hello Despo, I have simular deployment on my home as well. It might be due to heavy service usage, or something most likely at Tailscale. I have however 1 additional question I would like to ask.

You say that the problem is that through tailscale, you cannot access the Nextcloud server? Or something more broad, like the whole LAN it is connected to/or to the subnet or network it is connected to since I do not know your specific deployment. And I do not really need to know that as well.

Do you experience any other services have simular issues, or logging into the services via the browser compared to the application?
