Been thinking of getting a tablet with sketch book pro for doing digital work, as they are WAY cheaper than a graphics tablet with a screen. Thinking about getting the samsung galaxy note 10.1 due to its built in, pressure sensitive stylus, anyone got any other suggestions/reccomendations?
I know this is a bit off topic but this seems like the perfect market for a windows 8 ultrabook with a stylus enabled screen akin to the nook, given that you could run photoshop or any other graphics program directly, and Apple is not going for the ultrabook market yet.
I always just used the tablets supplied by my school graphic department, i'm pretty sure they were older wacom tablets. I really dont like it matters what you get so-long as it's well reviewed, accurate and compatible with your software of choice. Also it seems like everyone is suggesting wireless stuff? Wouldn't you be sitting at your workstation anyway?
Thanks for the input everyone, you have brought up some valid points. I would mainly use the tablet primarily for doing quick sketching on the move, nothing to detailed so the tablet i get doesn't need to be incredible. As for buying a wacom tablet, i do have one, but I don't use it much as it is one of those tiny A6 ones which isnt much use (asked parents to buy a midrange wacom tablet for christmas, got the cheapest one instead -.-). When I can afford it I will definitely invest in a good one, as wacom is the best in the business for that kind of thing, but atm I don't have much cash spare, so the galaxy 10.1 seems like the best choice, but thanks for contributing anyway. A windows 8 tablet is certainly tempting, but I think that sketchbook pro has all I need and there is a distinct lack of apps atm. as for hooking up a nexus you cant use a pressure sensitive stylus and apparently it lags pretty badly if you just use a basic stylus in sketchbook pro.
You should be able to get a Wacom A5 Intuos 4 or 3 for the amount of cash you have to put down on a Note 10.1", You really can't get the same amount of freedom on a Note as it doesn't have the same array of applications as you would get on a desktop environment, I would either wait for a good Win8 tablet option (which will probably be pretty hefty on the price side, and be sure to get the x86 one and not the ARM based one as you can't run x86 compiled applications on the ARM tablet (ie Photoshop suite and Corel Painter and whatnot). Anyway, I would put my money on a Wacom first, I want to get a tablet solution as well, but I won't see that as a pro tool, but more for recreational sketching.
yeah, thinking on it i will probably invest in a good wacom now, as i dont travel that much, and get a win8 or otherwise tablet for uni further down the line. thanks for the help :)
On the move. Get a Tablet PC. Like an HP Elitebook 2760p( or 2740p, 2730p). Or a Fujitsu T4220( or T4215) or Toshiba Portege M700( M750). They all have Wacom digitizers, so they're good for sketching. The 2760p and 2740p use either an i5 or i7. The older ones use a Core Duo or Core 2 Duo. On Ebay, their prices( used, seller refurbished, maufacturer refurbished, new) range from $150-$600
wow, thanks for the heads up, I couldnt find any decent tablet pcs with wacom digitisers when I looked. Having an i5 or i7 would be pretty sweet, I will definitely look into this further :)
