System upgrade

Well its about time I’ve been running this computer for since 2011 I’ve been through 2 power supply’s and one case. I’m starting to feel it may be time to upgrade. Any comments or ideas let me know, but one of the requirements is ‘Pretty Lights’.

This is was looking to get budget of 1300 usd.
New Items:

Power Supply - Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 750W
Processor - Intel 7th Gen Intel Core Desktop Processor i7-7700K
Heat sink - Thermaltake WATER 3.0 Triple Riing RGB 360mm
Ram - Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 3200

Carry Overs from my old system :
Video card - MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2GB
Hard drive 1 - Samsung 850 PRO - 256GB SATA III
Hard drive 2 - 2tb something I forgot and too lazy to look

If it’s for gaming, there’s no reason to get that processor if you plan on keeping that ancient card.

If it isn’t for gaming then yeah go ahead buy it.

I have a 770 and was amazed at how good some of the newer cards are especially in newer games.

Only post this cause I have not found a similar comparison for the 680

680’s are barely clinging to the edge of the outskirts of relevance.

Even if it weren’t, you can fully peg it with much lower end hardware.

but again, this all assumes OP’s primary use case is gaming

if not, none of it matters.

The 680 will be replaced with a 1070 or a 1080 when I can afford it along with the ssd I plan to upgrade to at least 2 512gb m.2 drives and run them in raid if I can rember how.

You’re much better off though, and would have a better experience, buing a lower end cpu and motherboard and getting the GPU now. However I guess if you do want the best possible experience or game at 1080p than the 7700K is a good choice now. Although CoffeeLake is coming up prob soon so you may wanna hold off

RAID SSDs if you mean RAID 0 especially are not a good idea at all either.

33GB of RAM isn’t necessary and neither is that Radiator. Tbh it isn’t even very good rad either. At least for the money

yeah it’s fine then

From here on out, you’ll get a lot of people shitposting about some minor tweak, or shouting about how you need ryzen, that’s basically all that happens in these threads.

Don’t put SSDs in RAID though.

The raid idea was just a thought I haven’t setup anything in a raid array since the 90s running NT 4 so I was kinda wary of it anyway. As for the Ryzen I looked at one but the config I really liked put me well over budget or I would have went that route. My main thing with computers anymore is world of warships/eve, Microsoft solitaire and youtube/email. I know this rig will be overkill for all that but them RGB’s are just sexy.

Would like to see that Ryzen configuration…

Yeah it is complete overkill. You can get RGBs and not drop $2K+ on hardware you know lol

Ok I just ordered.

Video card - ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 8GB ROG STRIX OC Edition -Due to all all the B**ching about my poor 680-
Case - Thermaltake View 31 RGB Dual Tempered Glass SPCC ATX Mid Tower
Heat sink - Thermaltake WATER 3.0 Triple Riing RGB 360mm

The rest I’ll pickup in October. I’m tempted to throw my old system into the new case just because it would look sexy, and pretty lights make me happy…

Actually givin todays prices that is a really really good option. 680 is still a fine card and GPU prices are way over inflated.
Black friday is 4 months or so away.
What cpu do you have now?
Always buy what makes you happy

I’m running a Amd-FX 8350 at 8 core 4ghz 16g ddr3 ram right now with a 256gb Samsung ssd and the 1 680 card
