System upgrade (PC)

So i am building a pc where some of the old stays in, and most of the really important parts gets replaced with something new. I'm thinking of bulding a hybrid PC since i do game a-lot, but i am also producing music with the software (Propellerhead Reason 7) which require quite a-lot of CPU power.

My question is, will this system bottleneck?!

Upgrading to:

Intel i7 4770K 3.5GHz

Ram will perhaps be 4x 4GB (Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz)

MSI 280x 3GB version. I was informed by reviews, that the 6GB version would just bottleneck itself, because the GPU are not really supporting that big amount of data. It will use it, but not efficiently.

Motherboard will be an (MSI h97 gaming 3) I couldn't find any reviews on this motherboard, but the specs looked good.

Case: Thermaltake Chaser A71

Current system.

Intel i5 2500K 3.3GHz

2x GTX 560 Ti running Sli (I think) I didn't go that well because of the lack of cooling, and my pc are generally just acting weird, hence the system upgrade.

1x new WD 1TB hard-drive for general storage. Keeping this.

1x Samsung SSD 128GB  840 Pro series ATA. Keeping this.

2x sticks of Kingston 4GB 1333MHz.

Motherboard: Can't remember the model of this one, but it's a cheap MSI motherboard.

Power supply: Corsair TX 650. Keeping this.

Case: Some kind og mid tower from Cooler Master

I think everything got covered here.

Would be awesome if you guys could point out some pros or cons!

Hy!

On the audio side it will work a charm. Reason it's not a power hungry beast, although it depends on how many real audio tracks you're mixing with the midi material. With this configuration, you'll have plenty of memory and cpu power to do anything you might ever want to do with Reason.

I think you're keeping quality hardware, just place any sound library on the HHD.

As fo the video card, you're more than fine for gaming at 1080 with medium/high details on one screen (depending on the title), or doing audio work on more screens.

What audio card are you using?

Also, if you're recording audio or doing critical listening, try and invest in proper quality fans. And get an aftermarket 120mm cpu cooler, it will be far quieter than the stock intel.

It' a good pc, solid. Good choice!

2500K is still awesome (gaming) cpu, I don't think you need to change that and motherboard. Just use most of your money for powerful gpu.

Sounds good to me :)

I am using an external audio card from Propellerhead. The (Balance) interface. Really good soundcard imo.

The 3x 200mm and 2x 120mm stock fans on the Thermaltake case should be enough i think.

And thank you for the reply :)

Yea it's doing great, but i do get lag sometimes. It feels sort of tired, even though i haven't really stressed the CPU.

The reason i want to change the motherboard, is that my pc in general acts weird. And to be on the safe side i'll change the most important part of my pc, in hopes of a faster computer that actually work properly!

Thank you for the reply! :)

No problem!c :) The Propellerhead it's a good card, but I would start saving a little money for a used MOTU or RME interface. Trust me, it will be a giant leap forward for your work!! :)

Have fun!

We'll i guess go for it then. Dunno how would 3770K compare to 4770K in terms of current pricing, you might save a bit money and still get powerful HT processor.

Just looked at the benchmark for th 3770k. It's a close run, but at some points the 4770k are light years ahead in performance imo.

The funny thing is that most of the stuff are already ordered. I just want to know if i made a mistake (performance wise) so i can send it back, and get something else. :)

In that case, no worries. You made a good choice. :)

So i am adding another thing to the list, but i have doubts about if it will fit!?

A Noctua NH-U12S CPU. Will it fit on the MSI H97 Gaming 3 motherboard, or will it block the PCI Express x16 slot?!

Are you going to be overclocking?  Get a Z97 board as the H97 board will not allow you to change your multiplier.

Also consider the i7-4790k, which is a i7-4770k, but a slightly newer haswell refresh that should be able to be cooled much easier.

LGA1150 can only take advantage of dual channel RAM.  Go with 2x8GB instead of 4x4GB

Can't afford the 4790K. No i'm not really going to overclock my system.

I am not sure what you mean with a multiplier tbh.

Thank you for the ram tip!

3 things are already ordered. The cpu, case, motherboard. Only need the GPU, rams and the cooler

You could have saved some money by going with a cheaper CPU, since you won't be overclocking.  A Xeon E3-1231 V3 would be about $75 cheaper, but have the performance of an i7.

Oh well things are already ordered, so to get back to actual question. Will the Cpu cooler fit on the selected motherboard, without blocking the PCI express slot?

With ATX boards, it's a very rare occurrence that a CPU cooler blocks the PCIe slot.  I doubt it.
