System host process high cpu usage

System host process in the task manager is using 30-50% of the cpu at any given point on windows 8. I thought it might be microsoft using the computer to torrent it's damn windows updates but it stays that way even with no internet connection. I've tried googling the issue but none seem to mention the system host process.

The machine also has the GWX virus from microsoft. Which btw , THEY HAVE UPDATED THE SYSTEM TO NEVER ALLOW THE GWX FOLDER TO BE DELETED. absolutely nuts. Seriously go ahead and link a "get rid of GWX" article. It no longer applies as they have updated the os to not allow it to ever be deleted in response to people deleting it.

Try running virus scans and whatnot. Try killing the process and see if it comes back. Try restarting with no connection to the internet and see if it starts. Try disabling updates. It could be Microsoft being asshats, but it could also just be a virus.

the system host process has to be running if you want the os to be running

Try it anyway. Fuck it.

Like @1920_1080p_1280_720p said, check for viruses. A couple years ago I had the same thing, and it ended up being viruses. They took up 30% system resources, always, even on idle. I ended up having to reformat the PC to get rid of them.
