I'm switching jobs after 13 years in my company, and 16 years out of school. I'm taking an IT/Communication Systems course from a tech school, and will be getting Cisco, FCC, and industry certifications. I have 9 months to prep. What subjects would you suggest I study (Coursera/Kahn Accadamy) before I go in?
Really the best learning is to do a ton of home networking. Build few websites, build a nas, a home server. Hands on is where you will lean the most. My brother does I.T. work for an entire v.a. hospital. to be honest 90% of the time his job is turning computers off and back on, and in the occasion something goes bad the flash a pre made system to one of the thousands of the same dell desktops they have. Oh and every once in a while they do inventory to make sure nobody stole anything.
