I have a Corsair H100i, I'm impressed with it's cool performance but I find that the pump is too noisy, it hums and resonates my Pc case (Air 540)
I have an Asus Z87-WS motherboard and was thinking of installing a Notcua NH-U12S onto my i7-4790k (4 Ghz base)
I don't want to overlock so do you guys think that this is a good option or is there a better one? (I prioritize noise reduction) I like how the NH-U12S is relatively compact so it has enough clearance between it and the Graphics card. (my Asus 780 is installed in the first PCi slot)
I have some experience with Noctua coolers, well the big ones. I'm sure that the U12 will get the job done if you can make sure it fits there may be an advantage of going to the D14. By being well overkill for the job at hand you can reduce the fan speed further, making it even quieter.
Just a question. Did you plug your fans into the h100i? Try to plug them into a motherboard header and check if it still hums, i've seen simillar issues like this on the h100i before.
Hey thanks. I have detached the fans from the h110i pump and have detached all my case fans. I discovered that the pump's motor makes a droning hum. I figured installing the noctua will reduse the vibration being transfered to the mother board and the case because it has a low powered fan that's raised off from the CPU socket
Grab 2 Corsair SP quiet fans and save some money. Tilt your case on its side and then boot it up you may have some airpockets my pump is dead silent even with all the fans turned off in my case. The HDDs are louder. Sounds like something might be faulty.
Hey thanks for that tip. I had already tipped my PC on its side and let it run for a couple of hours it did help and got rid of most of the drone. I think the H100i is simply a bit too loud for my liking, its on my desk and can be heard from 6 foot away. ....Thanks guys for your thoughts!
