Switching from console to PC

I'm going from ps3 to PC. I'm afraid im gonna have a hard time getting used to playing shooters with a mouse. Do you have any tips on how I can improve my aim?

you're going to have a hard time believing this but its actually levels a magnetude easier and more accurate with a mouse and keyboard that it is with a joy stick, get a good mouse I love my razer imperater 2012, but those zowie mouses are top notch

From my personal experience, gaming mice and keyboards are a gimmick. You don't need them to be good in any game. It's just a matter of getting used to new controls. At first you'll probably be getting your ass handed to you in shooters, since you're not used to playing with mice and keyboard. But you'll get the hang of it eventually, and realize just how much better shooters are with mice and keyboard. But certain games are still much better with a controller than a mouse + keyboard (Batman Arkham games, platformers, any racing/driving game). Mouse aiming is subjective. It's all up to you. Some people like having very high sensitivity, others like low sensitivity. Play around with the settings, mouse controls, and aiming speed/sensitivity to find whatever settings best suit you.

It's very easy to aim with a mouse. Your main concern will be testing your reflexes in multiplayer. Though, it's not as bad as it sounds. After a short time, you will be as good as most other FPS players. I just use the Logitech MK120 keyboard and mouse combo, which should cost around $10... cheaper than a console controller ;)

you'd be surprised how much better you are if you can relax in a comfortable mouse, also you'll play like crap if you have a crappy mouse that can only do like 200 dpi or a ball mouse

Well, you need at least an entry-level gaming mouse to play shooters because killing anyone with something like a shotgun using an office mice is very close to impossible. Office mice don't have feet that properly glide which is very important, their sensors often have tons of negative acceleration and none of them have ergonomic shape.

Gaming keyboard is more about comfort than performance but there are some games that are clearly easier with mechanical keyboards. Those are, for example, Touhou and osu.

I took it up reletively quickly mabye try playing like heavy or something in tf2 where you don't need to have percise accuracy but just to get used to aiming and navigating with a mouse, then switch to a class like sniper. It didn't take me long at all and i was a console player for years.

Just use a controller. I game when relaxing, hunched over a desk using a keyboard and mouse is not comfortable to me. I basically use my PC as a console, its plugged into my TV, I control it via my laptop or a remote control and use a Xbox pad to play games. In fact the only things plugged into my PC are my gamepad and guitar, no need for anything else if you don't want it. Being a PC gamer does not mean you need to game using a mouse + keyboard and give up all the comfort and convenience of a console. Get the best of both worlds: The cutting edge graphics and flexibility of a PC while playing laid back on the couch.

Well, a large part of PC gaming is incompatible with this 'comfort and convenience' (I personally consider inconvenient anything that is not "in a chair in front of a monitor"). Many games, especially exclusive to PC, cannot be played with anything other than a mouse and a keyboard. Those are, for example, MOBA and RTS. You also can't play any miltiplayer FPS with a controller simply because this input method is not fast and accurate enough, not to mention something skill-based like Tribes: Ascend.

All very true, I guess its down to the gamer. I dont play any of the types of games you mentioned so chilling with a gamepad is good for me. That said, how about a wireless keyboard + mouse and a dinner tray? That would work I reckon...

It wouldn't work in any competitive game (which FPS, RTS and MOBA are definiton of) because you need to sit in ergonomic position (which requires appropriate height of your chair and the table) to be able to control mouse movement without any hindrances. It becomes very apparent when you push your limits like in osu!

You'll be surprised how quickly you adapt to keyboard and mouse for fps and once you're used to it you'll not want to swap back.

Like a few others have said you don't need a gaming mouse to start playing. I used a cheap wireless microsoft mouse for years but when I swapped over to a gaming mouse I felt a big improvement as everything was that little bit more precise from the tracking of the mouse to the clicks of the buttons and scroll wheel.

Jeez, those games sound far too much like work. After a hard day the last thing I want is to sit in a ergonomic position, I just want to veg out and relax. To each is own I suppose
