Hey guys!
Ive been watching the videos on youtube about building a gaming rig, and i am especially interested in doing this now to play guild wars 2.
The problem i have is ive never attempted or seen a bios menu/setup and was wondering what exactly it entails and if someone who has 0 experience would be able to set this up.
A lot of the build vidoes ive seen never include bios set up and this is worrying me before i commit my budget on parts.
Any help would be great!
Regards Bruce
For your first PC build there isn't really too much you will need to do in the BIOS. The only thing you may possibly need to change is the device boot order, which you can find a quick tutorial easily on youtube. (for eg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZAh-dkZ6e8). The look of the BIOS will vary motherboard to motherboard but they are all generally the same feel.
Very rarely do you ever need to go into the BIOS, on a PC. AS Obsidian-Sky mentioned you might have to change your boot device the first time around, but that's honestly very nice and easy to do, most BIOS' these days even have a nice little "quick boot device change" option so you don't even need to go into the full BIOS.
There's no harm in going into the BIOS, just go in and browse around. Just don't hit the "Save and Exit" hotkey if you accidentally change something, normally it won't be anything harmful, but it might give you a headache later.. There's always the "revert to factory settings" options if you're unlucky. There is an exit without saving option..
The most structured post in history brought to you by me.
every bios I've ever gotten defaulted to IDE instead of ACHI, which will slow down the System terribly, you can't half ass trust the Mobo to detect the right settings for ram speed and timings
Does IDE even exist? When I was browsing around I never saw anything but SATA.
its an older mode that sata operates in and yes it is on ALL bios, for older ones it might be the only option or called something else
