Will a 4pin power connector work in a 8pin slot if the CPU doesn't need the extra power? If not, what are my options?
I'm doing a budget build for a non-profit center that I volunteer at. I came up with $250 build, but I'm a little stuck with the power supply. I chose a Seasonic 300w OEM power supply, and there aren't any specs as far as connectors go. I believe it has a 4 pin 12V CPU power connector, however, the motherboard I chose (ASRock H55M-HVS FM1) utilizes an 8 pin CPU power. The CPU I chose is the A4-3300 (2.5GHz dual-core Llano). I also don't see anything about adapters. I believe one of my Rosewill PSU's came with a 6-pin PCI-e to 8pin CPU, but I'd need another dual molex to PCI-e adapter, and I'm not sure if that would work.
Also, feel free to look at the build and let me know of any changes you'd make.
