Hi everyone, been watching both Youtube channels for a while now and I’m seeking guidance on preparing my computer for sale. I have a Supermicro H11DSI-NT with 2 x Epyc 7601 32 core CPU’s, 1000w PSU, 256GB DDR4 2133 MT/s, GTX 1650, 4TB NVME.
I’m currently running my own OS LInux Lite, but I’d like to install Windows 11 to make it sell easier here. The furthest I have got is - inserted USB (made with Media Creation Tool), booted to USB drive, got the Windows 11 logo, then the computer reboots itself each time. I can never get to the first dialogue box for installing Windows.
I know officially that there is no support for Windows 11 on this model, but I would still like to get Windows installed.
Appreciate any help I can get with this. Thank you. (hi Wendell and the gang!)
@valtam is having trouble installing Windows 11 because the motherboard doesn’t have a TPM module. Have you considered creating a custom bootable USB for Windows 11?
Epyc is unsupported by Windows 11
drivers will be missing, unsupported CPU, general wonkiness
Server 2022 (or 2025) is what you want for Winders on any enterprise gear
true (unless he has the supermicro add on) but it’s also an unsupported CPU
I figured a custom Windows 11 ISO would be needed to install a Windows 11 VM using Promox as the operating software. How is Windows workstation support on AMD EPYC’s?
Best thing I can suggest for windows install on that server gear to make it sell is to install a evaluation copy of windows server 2022. This way you don’t loose a server key to someone unknown. Most buyers will understand that it is an evaluation copy as long as it’s disclosed up front!
I’m usually good buying pc equipment with no hard drives for data security!
Thank you to everyone for your suggestions.
Installing a VM like Proxmox is out of the question as I want this system to be an option for as many potential buyers as possible . The same goes for any Server OS. I can bypass TPM no trouble, there’s plenty of tutorials on that. I wonder if there is a BIOS setting or two that will allow the installation to continue (if that is the issue)? I’m in New Zealand so looking for around $3000NZD for the complete set up.
