Supercomputers in China

So, the Titan has fallen (to second place). China has officially taken the number one place in supercomputers.

Who wants to bet that AMD's new flag ship card will be named Tianhe? Haha, that would be quite the joke...

There are tons of supercomputers being made, soon they'll connect them all and make intelligence. What would you do with a supercomputer of these magnitudes?

What exactly does one do with a 3.12 million core machine?

Still can't max out Crysis 3 on ultra at 60fps lol.

Am I right in thinking that the Chinese are creating their own line of Chinese processors and using a type of Linux in order to have "Technological independence"?

and yeah, can it run Crysis?

You are correct fisheth, and no, it can't run Crysis. (Also, the Tianhe uses Intel Xeons, those chinese CPUs are very weak, they only recently reached 2ghz clock speeds)

Write a small programme that counts and find infinity. There's probably some huge flaw in this plan.

Mine Bitcoins solo.

The power per clock may be really high, though.

Possibly, but they still are most likely a far cry from any western made CPU.

Carefully predicting atmospheric activities (for any signs of major weather), finding cure to cancer, or maybe just for cultural sakes.

I don't have much of an idea about supercomputers, but I imagine it could be used to do a lot of calculations related to astrophsics and the universe

the answer to its' first computation was  " i am Batman"

Probably something about the universe. Why would they need a supercomputer to find a cure for cancer?

But can it run Minecraft? I would have it buffer a couple thousand frames in advance what I could do. (Kinda like a chess master.) Then I would have it playing at ~1000 fps and never lag :D

Just saw this come up, looks like Gingrich was playing crysis a little to long:

Some good laughs...
