I've got an XFX HD 7870 Core, used for 1 week. The first day i've been having random red pixels on certain dark colours. Now when i start my computer, the gpu starts to overheat. 50 degrees on desktop and continues to rise quickly to 90 degrees with artifacts. The fan is like a jet. Help needed asap please.
Sounds like the heatsink isnt seated properly, that or something in the heatpipes has gone terribly wrong.
RMA it to the people you bought it from (Ncix, Newegg, Tiger Direct) You should be well within the RMA period
Make sure it isnt your monitor, if it isnt your monitor, RMA it.
Well first check if the cooling is working properly and is seated properly.
well i reinstall windows, the temperatures were normal. I was wathing videos, facebook etc. Then i opened a game. The temperature started to rise, i guess that's normal then i closed it. Temperature continued to rise so i had to shut down m pc till the gpu cooled off. After reboot the temperatures continued to rise just like my first post. Btw first on idle the voltage was 0.825v, it rised to 1.219v when i opened the game but it stays 1.219 all the time. This is a new gpu not overclock or anything, actually i had to underclock to 400 Mhz to get 70 degrees.
Send it back to where you bought it, and if not send it to XFX as im pretty sure they have a lifetime warranty.
wait i just noticed that when windows starts, the voltage jumps from 0.825 to 1.219v. Im trying to negociate with xfx and reseller both are refusing me, I can't comprehend why since i just got the card 1 week ago. Any help with the first line?
Just RMA it I think its just a defective gpu
just fill out the RMA and send it in. if the retailer refuses, send it to xfx. if the reseller refuses it, then you can sue them, provided that the card came with warranty documentation. same goes for xfx.
ok guys i've pinpointed the problem. Just after i install far cry 3, my gpu start to overclock itself and overheat. Not while playing the game but just after installing it. I did not have this problem with any other game for the time being. What is this?
Yeah the monitor is causing his card to overheat. Logical.
Overclock itself? I thought only Nvidia cards do that, 'cause of their dynamic core clocks...
Hey smarty pants. He has to make sure if it isnt his monitor which is faulty and has the red dots and shit.
RMA for sure. If it wasnt under warranty, I would say yank the heatsink off and repaste it yourself just to make sure its tranfering like it should. The fan may be hosed too. 1 set of bad brushes will make them spin but slow even under full power.
