I just wouldn't take a chance on integrated graphics personally. If you're really going for budget and don't mind that not everything will be able to run smoothly/well on it, then go for it. Either way, you might want to get more RAM. One 4GB stick isn't going to cut it if you're relying on the integrated chip, even at 1866.
I agree with them. It would certainly be preferred if you get more RAM. I would pay $20 more for the G Skill 8 GB 1866 DDR3 stick. It's $46 on PCPartPicker.com
Trust me, it will make a difference. It would be pointless to buy an A10 APU then be forced to play games at either Medium or Low quality because your computer doesn't have enough RAM for the extra detail textures and effects at higher resolutions. It'd be almost pointless to play at lower resolutions with the extra detail in textures and effects.
Windows 7 runs best with 4 GB of RAM. 1 GB is already taken (at the least) by the APU, leaving you with 3GB. That's just WIndows 7 though. That's not even considering gaming at all.
You really need those extra 4 GB. If you will upgrade later, then that could be fine. Just buy another 4GB RAM stick. I'm just saying, it will certainly hinder you if it's only 4GB.
I think these people are trying to explain resource allocation in a really bad way. It seems like you know that the APU will run off of system memory, but so will everything else. Not a big deal, 4gb of ram will run the OS and day to day operation just fine. But if you game on those 4gb, your system will reallocate the ram/overhead that windows and other programs have to the APU.
What does that mean? You will basically have to wait for windows to re-iniialize when you close/switch programs, your load times will be affected as your APU has to reallocate more resources.
Should you get more RAM? Yea pretty much, it's not like ram is frightfully expensive, nor is it uncommon to be on sale. 6gb of 1866mhz ram is a safe bet, as is 8gb. if linux were more mature as a gaming platform 4gb would actually be just fine since you could run a lightweight distro.
I used to run off of an integrated Intel chip in my old Dimmension 3000 and i was playing off of 512mb for the longest time, it was not a fun experience.
Also stremor, with his budget discrete graphics cards are the inferior choice in terms of graphical horsepower.
He never listed an actual budget. I did say he "needed" one but I didn't try forcing it down his throat. It's ultimately his choice, but if he fully intended going with integrated, he'd have to go with more RAM for tolerable performance. And thank you for explaining why myself and the other posters failed to explain why he needed more RAM.
