Suggestions for Cheap 1080p Gaming Monitor?

Greetings! Recently, with the help of the Tek Syndicate community, I built quite the gaming rig. Now, I am faced with the problem of an 8350 and 780 driving some 1440x900 monitor I've had for 6 years; clearly this is just unacceptable. That said, here's all the information I can think to be relevant.

- I live in the US, so shipping isn't likely to be a problem

- Price and input lag are pretty much the only two factors. I don't game competitively so it doesn't need to be amazing, and color depth/viewing angles just need to be playable.

- I only have 18.5" of height to work with, but that seems to be within the range of most 1080p displays I have found.

- A local store has a sale through 2/23 on some random Samsung monitor for which I can't find input lag data (model number S23C570H) for $150, as well as an excellent return policy for dead pixels and such,  so if that's my best bet it would be helpful to know.

Sorry about the massive wall of text, and thanks in advance for the help.

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vx238hw this one is a low response time cheap asus. It has a tn panel which has lower input lag then a ips panel. But it has less deep colors and a lower expectable viewing angle. The perks of all this is a 1ms response time.

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/lg-monitor-23ea63vp this is an ips panel that has a bit bigger response time at 5ms but has much deeper colors than a tn panel along with a much bigger viewing range.

The Samsung panel at the local store is an awesome deal. Its a $210 ips panel from Samsung. Samsung and LG make the best monitors around. They have the best pixels in terms of the screen door affect you can see on low grade panels. Asus is also pretty good but not up to the standards of Samsung and LG. The specific panel at the local store is an Ips with a 5ms response time. It is a very good deal for that quality of panel.

Alright, thanks for the info. I believe you were the first person to suggest a 780 in this system, so thanks for that as well; it's a beast of a card.

this is what i use (just got it for christmas as an upgrade from a CRT lol). it is great. 24" and no noticeable input lag! it is an official MLG gaming monitor, so input lag is taken very seriously.

input lag is a huge deal to me. being used to crt, and the fact that 99% tvs are unplayable for me, and a lot of monitors as well, i have done tons of research.

if input lag is as important to you as it is to me, and many others, then check this site out. anything with an EXCELLENT rank will be great. just choose search for your desired size, click the amazon link/or search google for the model reviews, and try and get a newer monitor if possible.

my RL2455HM is a 2013 monitor, so it is fairly new.

the VX238H that thecaveman suggested is also a great option. really low input lag. however, it is 23" for only like $3 you can get the benQ which is 24"

but both are great options.

That LG- ips monitor that ""thecaveman"" recommended, is a realy great monitor, ips panels have realy great colors and viewing angles. LG also makes the best ips panels you could get. Those panels are also stuffed into alot of other more expensive brands out there. The respons time of those ips panels is 5 ms, and 13 ms GTG, but i play alot of diffrent games, even racing games in an ips panel, and i did not notice any imput lag at all.

I could realy vote for the LG 23 inch ips.

there is a 23" IPS monitor that has REALLY low input lag. the Ezio Forris FS2333. has like 2ms input lag (lower than gaming TN panels). but it is 23", 60hz, 1080. not bad, but at $400, that is crazy lol. always wanted to play on one though <.<

wonder if G-Sync will start to give us IPS monitors with TN level input lag.....  =o

I have that LG IPS monitor and have had no issues so far, had it for about 4 months now, great colour, no input lag even in fast paced games, and looks really sleek too.

now i wish i had that monitor <.<

lol

If you want cheap you could go for the ASUS VS228H-P. LED backlight, average response rate, and cheap. It's on Amazon for $129.99 with a $10 MIR currently. It's worked good enough for me for the last three years or so that I just ordered a second one a few hours ago. It's probably the epitome of average, but it works.

About the LG monitor. I noticed that there are some reviews questioning the reliability of the stand, what are your impressions about it?

Some user on Amazon even said that "They have taken to providing a "strap" to secure the monitor attachment to the stand. That's right, you actually need to use a "tie strip" to hold the darn thing together". Is this true?

Dell S2340L 23" IPS monitor...

The stand is nothing special, if you bang your desk then it does wobble a bit but its not something that I would consider to be a deal breaker. I dont tend to bang my desk to often anyway. Its perfectly fine apart from that

Thanks, I'll be buying a new monitor soon and it's good to know your options.

I can recommend it, as long as you dont feel the need to shake your table un uncontrollably from time to time
