Here’s the situation, I apologize for length, I always feel more information is better than less :
I have a “NAS” running Win 10, Dual core pentium g2120, h77 mobo, 16gigs ram, gtx 750ti, 2 3TB (seagate) standard drives in a win 10 software “raid” pool and a third 3TB (seagate) as a clone of the raid, the OS and software is on a 128GB SSD. This machine is also running as a general living room machine for kids/netflix/htpc/etc. connected to a TV - thus the windows OS and light graphics card.
As may be obvious, this has been cobbled together. I have a 1Gb network hardwired cat5e for the “NAS”, My main machine in the office, and an additional desktop that’s rarely used. I also split hardwire to two tenants that I need to keep out of my business, but get them signal. Additionally there is at least one laptop that needs to be backed up wirelessly.
My main machine runs a 256GB ssd, a 3TB (WD Green) and an old 1TB (WD Green). Laptop backup is lightweight.
So the questions:
- I plan to use crashplan as a backup. I’m not sure if I should put each computer on it (Plus some relatives with the family plan up to 10) or sync my machines to the main “nas” and just backup that one so that time warner doesn’t start to throttle me because who knows what the tenants are pushing and pulling…
Unfortunately, I can’t spring for ecc ram/board/etc. at the moment so the predicament.
- What’s the best way to do this? I would like to set up cron jobs overnight for this but am not sure which software to use to keep it all together. Additionally, I have an extra 4TB seagate nas drive that I can jam in any of the machines to do an additional backup of everything. I think it’s also good to swap some in and out to my fire safe every month or 2 just to be safe.
I’ve looked at a dozen pieces of sync software from windows sync center to freefilesync to torrent syncs, and everything in between. It just seems to be a clusterfuck of a mess. I also have the ability to offsite sync with a relative…
