Sub $1k Workstation

Hello All!

My school district decided to fork over some dough for our school's computer lab.  I'm trying to convince my web design teacher to let us build them.  He would love to, he's a builder himself, but the district needs the convincing.  He told me to get a list with pats with approximate prices

He told me the approximate price for each unit should be $1k (ish).  The applications that would be used will be adobe suite, autdesk suite, web development, game development, etc...  So a large workstation emphasis.  I was thinking something along the lines of:

  • Intel Xeon 1230V2
  • H81 Mini-Itx mobo.
  • 16 GB of RAM
  • Quadro Video card
  • Mini Itx case
  • reliable 80+gold Psu

I don't know what he wants to do with storage so leave some room for it. so what do you guys think any suggestions? The thing that I really need a recommendation on is a GPU.  I don't know much about workstation GPUs.

Thanks!

Does your school need workstation parts, specifically? Or, would it be fine with desktop parts?

Whatever works best for the price.  My teacher's complaint is that the current computers are not professional grade so that's what he wants.

Looks alright.  You may want to look into software licensing unless the school has that covered.

And you might want to consider between a gaming GPU or workstation GPU.  It just depends on the application.  I would think game design would like a gaming GPU, but I don't really know.
