interested to see potential builds for STX mobos and reasons why you would use it/what you want to use it for? anyone? :D
6th gen intel core i7/5/3/etc support

HTPC/Steam box/Parents' machine.
The lack of PCIe means that it won't ever handle more than basic games, and there's simply not enough space to load up on SATA ports so it won't be a NAS machine either. That pretty much leaves HTPC, Streaming, and basic tasks like browsing the internet and typing up word documents.
It is pretty nifty though.
router? lower power consumption/space could be a cloud gaming build?
pfsense (wireless) router? Heck, maybe even wired if you add some USB3 NIC but don't personally know how reliable/powerful those are.. (@DeusQain that might be an interesting topic, grab a bunch and see how crappy are they? :D )
Steam box
I honestly never understood the point of using an actual full-fledged PC as a router. Seems like strapping jet boosters to a school bus. Fun, but way overkill.
As for cloud, that was more or less what I meant by Steam box/streaming. The new Iris graphics are actually surprisingly decent, but still not that great, so streaming from a more powerful computer would definitely be necessary, especially now that 4K is the "in thing" this week.
im sure there will be other mobos with other options though? you would think so at least? i have no idea how they are limited in the construction/layout due to size of pcb.
You give up far too much connectivity compared to ITX motherboards
What? STX boards with more than 1 LAN port? Maybe.
yea, or option for a pci express (lol not sure how) 1 pci lane... laptop esque adapter for external gfx card or ability to install smaller gpus (mobiles) nfi...
It does have PCI-E expansion: Thunderbolt 3
good point.
this board would be perfect for putting in old consoles for emulation
Still too big for a GC but Ironically could be squeezed into a Wii enclose with the right components. I would still prefer smaller to have better cooling and to be able to reuse the ports
(just thinking out loud)
never even crossed my mind.... thats an interesting point.... i can see myself rocking up to a lan carrying a PS4 haha
Possibly a NUC would suit your idea better (NUC boards are 4x4). Intel's Skull Canyon NUC is supposed to have next gen Iris Pro
If they get more SATA ports on those, oh man.... servers! Getting PCI-e to work properly will be interesting. Thunderbolt is a nice thing, but it is fairly proprietary and niche.
definitely, but the price is a bit out there because the cpu is integrated.
