Stop this low FOV insanity!

Honestly, i have had just about enough of games constantly having to have this pathetically low fov. It is probably the most excruciatingly irritating thing in the world to have to play any game with such a low fov and not be able to change it. Its like bloody tunnel vision, and it makes me physically unconformable on the inside when playing the game set to a field of view of 45. It feels like im playing on a 4-inch monitor with the damn thing 2 inches way from my face. It just feels so bad. I hate it so much. Just sooo much.

 

I mean honestly, its not as if its a hard feature to put into the settings. Im sick of having to download crap, find and edit config files to change it. Sometimes you don't even have the ability to change it at all.

 

 

Does anybody seriously not get as annoyed as i do by this?!

i use a two step process:

1. stop buying those games

2. complain about it

step 2 doesn't work without step 1.

I have tried those 2 simple steps before, but it is not an entirely fail-safe way of dealing with it...

Some games are just too irresistible not to buy.

But seriously, it is just so very irritating games having such low fov and not allowing you to change it. I just felt i had to vent some of my rage to the community.

if they know they'll get your money either way, what incentive do they have to change their behaviour?

You can always check for mods that implement an FOV setting. Some games have them, some don't.

I don't even buy/play games that don't include a FOV slider

I agree, FOV sliders should be standard. I was just making the point that when the developers have been lazy there are sometimes workarounds.

It's okay not to play a game because it's crap technologically, no matter how good others say it is underneath. But yeah sometimes there are ways around it.

A significant reason for it is consolitis. Games with FOV 60 don't look so bad at a TV screen meters away, and it saves computing power that the hardware is always short of. Be ever vigilant of consolitis.

Yeah, best bet is to vote with your wallet, and get other like minded people to do the same.  Once the devs realize there is a demand for adjustable or at least increased FOV for PC players, they'll start making the effort.  Probably.  Maybe.
