Steam, Source Engine Coming to Linux, UPDATED

After years of rumor pandering (since 2008) from Phoronix, they've finally got some really solid, meaty proof that Linux will be providing a new home to the Steam service.

Now doesn't that bit of news sound delectable? I'm curious which major developers will support Linux. I hope id Software jump aboard the train, and there's already a huge number of indie games with Linux versions. Can't wait to have even less reason to boot in to WinXP, honestly.

It's now official.

I will believe this the day it happens. But that'd be awesome if it comes true. If I can just have TF2 and Portal1,2 And L4D2 running natively on linux I'll be happy.

It's also really awesome that loads of indie games and most of the cool new games from kickstarter are going to be Windows/ Mac/ Linux. If I can have foobar on Linux I will probably switch.

Also, if your favorite games are on Linux you can save $100 or so on your gaming system build.

Yeah, seeing games on Ubuntu's Software Center was really nice. I hope more developers keep doing this.

yeah, i do not like windows 8.... i was planning on dual booting win7 and eather arch or debian.... now that steam is going to be on linux.... screw win7, ann i need is cs:s or tf2 too pass the time when im not coding....

I don't know if the extremetech.com news was up when I first read this, but that is amazing. If I just have L4D2 and TF2 I'll be happy. Portal 2 would be nice, also. This is looking good.
