Steam Dispute

I purhcased Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon on the Steam Summer Sale for about 7 bucks a week ago and Paypal quickly flagged the transaction for a "routine check." They gave me a confirmation code and called to ensure that I was the owner of the card. I have purchased from Steam with Paypal before and I had the same thing happen when first ordering from Origin on a new computer.

I didn't think this would be much of a problem until Steam removed Blood Dragon from my Library and locked many account privaleges. A week of (horribly slow) email correspondence with Steam and several hours of phone conversations with Paypal I have confirmed through Paypal that Valve has been sitting with my money for a while but Steam denies me ever paying.

What should I do? Is a Paypal dispute risky?

Sorry for the long post, I didn't want to be too vague

Don't worry about risk. Do whatever you can to get your money back.

heard stories of steam banning accounts when paypal takes money back from them, id suggest working through steams ticket service and provide as much evidence as you can that you did indeed legally purchse the game and that paypal has indeed released the funds (you may need some evidence from paypal to confirm this)

This is one of the reasons i use a card on digital purchases, its easier to get evidence of the funds being moved along with the fact you still have cover on your purchases through your bank/card provider. Sure it takes a little longer if you need to use it but your the one in control.

You should have the confirmation emails. Use those.

Get a support ticket for crying out loud and provide as much evidence as possible to get your money back.

Also, stop using PayPal, the people running that service are absolute douchebags.

Thanks for the quick replies! This was my first post in the Tek Syndicate community (I've been a big fan through Youtube for a while) and all the help relaly makes me feel welcome. I screenshotted the paypal record and attached it to a reply. After nearly 24 hours, I recieved the same form-letter sounding reply stating that they are still treating the case as fraud. I called paypal again and representative emailed a copy of the entire transaction record with a note asking to please drop any accusations becuase there is no issue. From some web research, I've basically sorted out that Steam has a lot of legal leverage in this sort of case and the terms of use basically allow them to take your money and you aren't allow to file a case against them.......sounds like the kind of thing Logan and Wendell always love (hate?) to talk about and this community is especially tuned to, which is why I decided to come here
