Either way, x570 boards are expensive, for less than the cost of the switch you could upgrade to something decent in the intel range, if not as fast as high end ryzen or threadripper.

Depends what the OP needs, but if i was on x299 i’d be upgrading it until the next socket for Ryzen comes out, or jump to TRX40. But that’s a big jump.

Thanks for all the input folks. I think for my use case, if I can get my hands on an i9-10940X that’s my plan. Not sure when that will actually be possible but for ~$850 I would much rather invest in a new CPU than take my chance for the same price or more for a used 7980XE or even a 7980/60. Of course that’s assuming Intel will actually make enough of them to have stock anywhere!!! The only place I’ve seen them is Microcenter and I’m not close enough to one to make that drive. Hoping NewEgg or similar comes through at some point.
