yep a lot of the game mechanics dont actually fit in the game very well.
there are so many perks to level but xp gain rate is kind of pitiful…
i think Bethesda thought people would want to spend weeks grinding to build a home like they did in fallout…
but in fallout you didn’t reset the whole game when you complete the main quest, everything you build and grind for is reset.
which kind of makes it pointless on the next playthrough. which then forces you into the rabbit hole of starborn hopping to new universes.
tip: if your stuck using the cutter, get the best out of it with right click and hold.
this causes the 3 markers on the reticule to shrink which in turn focus’s the cutters beams increasing its power.
rocks that take multiple seconds to break normally will now shatter near instantly…
oh and it can work well on enemies too.
Worst think about starfield, and bethesda is this. Starfield does not require fast ssd anymore than than any recent game, yet game asset loading is for some reason hardcoded to bypass filesystem cache altogether.
All this makes the game performance bound by 4KRR iops. Detail and first fix here, now merged into other mods (like this).
Its hilariously stupid in hindsight, but still shameful that modders diagnose it and offer fix first.
Given how bethesda is married to that abomination of the engine, I would expect substantial level of investment and refactoring.
But then you see something like what I described above. Do they not have independent QA anymore, or is it devs checking if it works on their machines?
Look, at least asset loading is not tied framerate, and frame is set to 30fps like fallout4. 1-2 minutes loading time on modern ssd without mods, insane.
Exactly, fucking imbeciles. Or rabid fans? Submisive simpletons that would rather slather themselves with feces than admit, they have been had?
Funny thin, I remember marketing class that hinted at this phenomenon, consumers that entwine their sense of self worth and identity with a product, becoming ardent defenders and evangelist for free.
At the time I thought it was either bullshit or fringe phenomenon (pre 2010 and before usage of social media), but now I see it every day.
Regardless, here is the official observation before the fixes
and here is reddit thread for funsies. I especially loved the buy optane already dammit, crowd of morons.
Yeah buy still overpriced EOL bandaid to fix software mess ,sure.
It mostly feels like like microstutters and sudden frame drops, especially in more dense areas. Thankfully its fixable, once bethesda gets its head out of howards ass. Or not.
Have you noticed absence of FOV setting? Similar gaff.
I refunded, will pick it up maybe when its 10-15 €, not worth it otherwise. It also felt empty storywise.
the driver updates will help a lot and add in the recent update from bethesda.
some of the performance issues have been negated/fixed…
myself, i installed borderless gaming to do exclusive full screen which adds about 10% performance over windowed borderless.
so now im chugging along at 60+ solid on high settings no upscaling in game. 2048x1152… full screen. (1440p screen) and using the inbuilt upscale’r in nvidia control panel.
works well…
got rid of bes the nvidia driver update sorted the reason i was using it
reset the games priority to normal. same as above.
dragged and dropped the whole folder from my spinning rust onto my nvme which stopped the stutter on texture update.
so i would say its working for the most part for me as intended.
Personally, being older has made me ~more~ susceptible to frame rate because I’ve started getting headaches more. I mean I’m barely into my thirties but I used to be able to endure chug for a couple hours and then it would get to me but that was my normal game session pacing. Now it’s virtually immediate. Obviously it depends on the style of game, but something first-person, and especially fast-paced it legitimately has to be 80-90 FPS to not feel bad. Warzone is cranked ~all~ the way to the low end on my little GTX 1650M to get the frames up to where it’s even doable for me.
Soooo when the desktop 1650 barely cracks 30 frames…ugh.
FYI - if its headache AND nausea, check and tweak FOV to larger value. If its too narrow and game is frenetic first person perspective, you might be susceptible like so many of us are.
I personally target 90-95° with 16:10 monitor. 80-90 is bit uncomfortable , 65-75° makes me want to hurl in minutes.
The nice thing about Fallout and the Elder Scrolls series of games is you don’t have to stick to the main story. I have 400+ hours in Fallout 4 and slightly less in Fallout: New Vegas. I seldom play the story and like to wander.
Not getting Starfield for a while. It’s my reward for finishing a personal project. Lord knows, if I get it before I’m done I’ll never finish.
Yeah I usually open it up to 85-90°, I don’t get motion sickness so nausea hasn’t been the thing, I really think it’s just the motion clarity, and higher speed/higher choppiness increases the problem.
I mean I ~also~ occasionally have issues with camera pans in movies, it could just be a Me Problem.
I would point out that space is ya know, pretty empty. On top of that, it seems like humanity hasn’t been in space that long and hasn’t really settled a whole lot of worlds.
The planetary exploration reminds me a bit of Mass Effect 1. Landing on a planet puts you in a small exploration zone that’s (mostly) procedurally generated. The different from ME1 is that if you want to, you can blast off and land on another part of the planet and get another randomly generated exploration zone. Even the 2nd world you explore, Kreet, is completely open if you want roam around and explore.
This will probably get old after a while, but for now I’m actually enjoying running into random, insignificant pirate bases, mines, and other facilities. The alien life so far is kind of boring, but maybe xenobiology will become a major part of the plot (there’s been some foreshadowing in that direction.)
