Star Trek

Wendell, Logan, and everyone else,

What is your favorite episode of Star Trek: The Original Series, and why is that one your favorite?

My favorite is Balance of Terror from season 1. In my opinion it is still the greatest space battle of all time. Space battles aren't about little fighter crafts that zoom around like jets and fire tiny partial beams of energy at each other. Space battles are battles where two captains with ships at great distances engage in psychological combat, predicting what the other will do next and getting into each others' minds, using what you think they think you are thinking against them.

Space Seed 22nd ep. 1st season, KHAN!!!!

Any episode with ...

ST-TOS ... Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Lt. Uhura, Nurse Chapple, Sulu, Chechov

ST-TNG ... Data, Dr.Crusher, Deanna Troi

ST-Voyager ... Seven Of Nine

ST-Deep Space Nine ... Ezri Dax

ST-Enterprise ... T'Pol

In the entire Star Trek franchise .... Misc. female ensigns and misc. female aliens.    lol

What can I say  ... I'm a dirty ol' man

No love for Counselor Troi? AH quick edit thats better!

to error is human ... that is why Data made the list.    lol

Not an error, but perhaps an oversight. Nice picks.

Deep Space Nine almost got 'meh' ... then I remembered Dax.

Season 2 Ep 24 The Ultimate Computer.

The episode basically tackles how automation is taking not only jobs away. But in some cases some of mans scene of purpose away. This is coming from a nut that lives on a side of a mountain chopping his own wood for fire. And making his own furniture and food. I love computers and automation just as much as anyone else. But I find it interesting how this episodes message is even more relevant today then it was in the late 60's. Also its about a computer so ya.

Wow would have thought to subject would have blown up here. Kind of sad now

Was that the "ugly bags of mostly water" episode? I like that one.

I'm afraid it was much too long since I saw an episode of the original series to remember any by name, but any one where Kirk gets slapped in the face would do.

No it was from TOS. It was the one where they hook a computer up to the Enterprise that went nuts and started shooting everything.

Ah yes, I was thinking of this one with Kirk "the creator"

I kind of always felt like they ripped that episode off a bit for the idea for the first movie.

Agreed.  Balance of Terror.  Wrath of Khan was heavily influenced by that episode, for good reason.  They treated space battles more like submarine battles, instead of just pew pew.  Much more tension and drama.

Rewatched a good one. Mirror, Mirror. (S2E4) It has its flaws but the premise is bold, Spock and Zulu plays great roles with their characters modified by being from an alternative universe. And Kirk is slapped in the face several times!

They also popped into the mirror universe in DS9 and Enterprise (maybe Voyager?  I haven't seen many of those, so I'm not sure).  They're usually fun episodes.  Just for reference lol.

Ya there was one episode of voyager if I remember right with the ISS voyger. Looked like it had huge cannons on it.

My 2nd favorite episode was probably the one where they enter a portal and end up in New York in the 1940s

yeah ... that one is definitely in my top 3
