SSD vs. HDD

Let the geeks duke it out throwing specs and links and decide what is the best overall storage option!

SSD wins.

Speed and more relaiblilty: SSD

Large capacity storage: HDD

They are both winners. But I prefer SSD. Because, ssdimmies man

Really you need both right now, unless you have tons of money to burn in which case an SSD is the obvious choice.

So I'd suppose I'd argue that SSDs aren't quite cheap enough for them to completely replace HDDs but they've been coming down in price quite a lot and I assume they'll only continue to get cheaper.

Where is the nerd rage...where is the never ending battle to the death, oh you guys are just too civilized, Hallelujah Praise lord gaben!

There is no nerd rage because there is no debate as to which is better. For massive storage, the value of a HDD cannot be matched by a SSD, and for performance a SSD cannot be matched by a HDD. I can't imagine anyone with an SSD ever going back to a HDD for their primary disk unless they cannot afford it, and most of us with SSDs still use HDDs to keep our media. Photos from your trip to the Bahamas don't need to be on a high performance drive and take up a lot of valuable space. That and they will be harder to recover from your SSD if/when it eventually fails.
