So i bought a SSD late Dec. and replaced my laptops hdd. This is a stupid question but can i transfer to a new pc without having to install the OS again?
there is software to clone the drive onto a different drive although i have never personaly done this and i would not reall consider this when utilizing hard drives and managing space but the technology is there
If the hardware on your new pc is similar then it might work, but it can be unstable, or may not work at all. Ideally you should always re-install your OS when you make significant hardware changes. You can always try it and see if it works and re-install if it doesn't. But I would make backups of anything important just in case.
If you don't reinstall the OS when moving the SSD from one system to another, you're going to have a bad time (unless it's an identical system).
Ok thanks!
