SSD poor ZFS performance

I have a bunch of 1tb SSDs, teamgroup ex2 so basic drives. I also have 12 2tb hp SSD drives in my home server. Raidz2

I am having the same problem with both of these servers. When I start large writes its great, 800+mbs but after like 40s it will drop down to tops 30mb/s. I am guessing its something to do with cache in the drives. Read speeds on my home “ISO” Server will read 6gb/s constant or at least as long as I can read data, doesnt seem to slow down.

I wanted to use the 8 1tb to backup proxmox vms/cts.

I have my storage servers, with u.2 nvme drives pci3 and will saturate all 4 10gb nics without slowing down. Raidz2

Thinking it might be better to sell the SSD and just grab a few 20tb HDD drives and call it a day.

If anyone has any solutions I could look into Id appreate it. Thanks!

Hi,

Team group ex2 have one of the worst write performance I have seen after the SLC cache is full, you can see it on the “sustained write performance” graph here : 1TB Team Group EX2 Performance Results and Conclusion - Team Group EX2 SATA SSD Review: Affordable but Lacking - Page 2 | Tom's Hardware

It seems in line withe the results you are seeing and might not be a zfs problem.

I don’t know the HP drives and you might look into if they support TRIM if you connect them with a HBA, some don’t.

ahh look at that! Id assume the HP drives I got are made by them too.

I have trim enabled still shit, I guess for what I use them for they will only ever be wrote to 1 time and be read from forever more.
