Hey people. I have a small issue. Yesterday, after I watched the tek and while I was watching the wan show on YouTube, my PC froze. I waited for about 10-15 sec, cause usually flash crashes and the pc freezes for a while. After I realized it wasn't flash, I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del. The pc restarted and I was greeted with Windows cannot boot, insert Windows install disc, and hardware mobo error A9. After consulting with the mobo manual, A9 appeared to be SATA device issue. Quick jump in the BIOS showed me I didn't have an SSD anymore. The bios sees only my Western Digital. I tried switching the SATA port on the mobo. Still nothing. Changed the power connector- still nnothing.
Is there some trick, that I can try, or sending it for repair is the only option?
The SSD is ADATA S511 60GB SATA 3. Mobo is Asrock fm2a88x extreme 6+. The OS is Windows 7 64 bit. Trim and ahci was all enabled.
PS: the only things installed was the OS, drivers, browser, players, Skype, micro torrent etc.. The PSU is Seasonic S12II 430W, so I am 101% sure, it's not it.
Could well be that it simply died, but one thing I would try before sending it in is having it disconnected from any power for a little while (maybe giving it at least half an hour to be sure) and see if that makes any difference. It was a while ago but if this drive has a very old firmware then there was an old SF-2200 controller bug that could manifest in a way that disconnecting it fora while helped it getting recognised by the motherboard again.
In case that would really help, look for a newer firmware afterwards. If it remains undetectable then yeah it's probably broken.
Actually you are absolutely correct - sandforce 2285 or 228 something... And the fun part is,the drive is actually 3 months old. I got it for around 45$, where even the slower Kingston V300 is 70$ in my country...
I will try that, thank you.
If someone have other ideas I'll be glad to hear them.
I know about that. This is why I tried connecting it to another SATA connector on the mobo, but nothing happend. I will try changing the SATA data cable, but I don't think it's something that simple...
For the last hour or so I am trying to install Windows on my HDD. What's happening is, that my system keeps telling me that the target device cannot be recognized. The error the debug LEDs are showing me is A9 or A6, depending on the mood of the system. A couple of times it didn't recognize my flash drive, a few times it didn't recognize the HDD...
The required device is inaccessible. Again. After clearing CMOS, and everything...
Is the mobo gone, or both my SSD and my HDD plus my flash drive have died at the same time?
