We recently got Xfinity internet and the WiFi keeps dropping. I suspect the router is the issue because there are 7 people and including one leech that’s always on LAN. Also there are 15+ connected devices at once. My friend thinks we should buy a WiFi extender but I’m thinking the router is crap and isn’t built to handle that much traffic.
I guess what I’m asking is, what is causing the internet to keep dropping(besides the usual US internet issues)
If your router cost any less than $1000 it isn't equipped to handle that much traffic...
Depending on what shit they installed 15 people is a lot, When I worked for Charter and installed their WiFI we did a modem connected to a netgear router the 160usd versions, and we only guaranteed up to 6 devices connected to the wifi.
you will probably need to buy an access point and run an Ethernet cable from it to the router on a lan port and disable wifi on the router, but even then it will probably struggle to be able to route that much traffic but at least now it is not also taking care of keeping wireless clients connected.
That's what I was thinking, it's that poverty ass router that's the issue. I've been telling them that from day one but all I ever hear back is "let's buy a wifi extender".
