This is obviously pretty bad. Thankfully we have Secureboot, right guys?
What is wrong with pornopgraphy? Humans did it since the day they started telling about their "tales".
I mean, watching videos does not harm anyone, or does it?
Typical case of old people in government, with no idea of tech absolutely.
Attempting to "block" porn at a OS level, is about as effective as throwing a hand grenade into the ocean to make sure people doesn't get wet from swimming in it.
Not to mention the reasoning, where porn is obviously the main reason for human trafficking, and not poverty making people desperate for a way out.
And don't get me started on the fact you can drop 20 dollars and the filter would be lifted, dear lord, that just scream cash grab to me.
OR...
They realize that computer technology is the future, and want to teach kids how computers work by using porn as a reward.
Pure brilliance, if you ask me.
I say do it. It would push more people towards Linux, which will push more software developers towards Linux.
That is just so ridiculous. My god, those people making these decisions really don't have any technical knowledge, do they?
So an unenforceable law?
Great use of tax dollars right there.
not a bad idea for one to implement on himself lol i have wasted enough time watching porn
I want to block polititions at the birth level.
Lol, this politician needs to take a chill pill and watch some hentai.
Wow this article was click-baity, and so many ads ->![]()
Anyway, yet another prime example of someone who doesn't know how things work. There's no way manufacturers can stop porn, that would have to be done at the DNS level, and even then, doesn't really work because you can change DNS.
I get that the guy wants to stop human trafficking, but this is not the way to do it.
And fuck, I live in SC. T-T
Couldn´t you just save the IPs you need to bookmarks?
Too bad they can't really do that. They would have to do it on a hardware level to do that and no company is going to agree for that bullshit.
Except for the fact that PC manufacturers can and probably will start shipping every PC with SecureBoot so we can't run Linux, since they won't want to be liable for anyone circumventing the law.
That said, I don't think this is technologically feasible on a machine with administrator or root level access, thankfully. The only way to do it is to get the ISPs to block access, and even that is easily defeated, but only by people with the requisite skillset. My worry is that they will put some stupid program on the OS that doesn't work properly, and then lock down the UEFI so you can't install an open source OS in a bad attempt to make their patchwork and duct-tape porn blocker functional.
They wouldn't be liable. Other people breaking the law is not something they have to worry about. People can choose what OS they want to use. Selling customers computers that can't be made to run another OS would not be in anyone's best business interest. A savvy businessman would immediately recognize that and seize that opportunity to sell computers without SecureBoot.
we should create a ghost company and submit a bid to make those computers and take all their money
There are legit reasons porn should be banned. I have no problem with them trying to do it. Ask yourself the following question: "Can the world go on without porn?" I think the answer is yes.
Those reasons beeing?
basically what will happen is that computers in SC will cost more than the surrounding states because of the cost to implement that block. so people will buy computers from other states and decimate the pc market in SC
