Soundbar + TV + PC Question

So I have the following setup for my father and I’m thinking there maybe some kind of issue with the audio/sound output.

I have a Comcast Cable/DVR box connected to a Samsung 4K TV via HDMI and an Optical cable connected to a Sony Soundbar for audio.

The PC is also connected to the TV via an HDMI cable.

So the issue is that the sound is fine when the source is on the Comcast device but it stays on the Comcast device when the video source is switched to the PC.

I want to say there was some kind of issue with the HDMI out from the Comcast box that didn’t work properly and only the optical cable would work when it first got setup a couple of years back.

So is the issue actually the Comcast box or the HDMI cable not being up to snuff or is Comcast doing some kind of trick with the HDMI output in regards to the audio/sound ?

Anybody got some ideas on this one ?

I would be happy to get a matching Samsung Soundbar if this would help to sync things up with the TV and work properly with the sound output.

It sounds like the soundbar is connected directly to the cable box instead of the TV. Is that the case?

What type of Samsung tv do you have? I had a 55 inch Samsung curved screen before I replaced it with a Lg because it had issues with pc-tv-sound system. Samsung used a seperate box to do thee connections and that was what caused all my issues due to the screen being curved.

Thanks for the feedback, I will try to grab the related makes and models of the TV and Soundbar.

I think the optical cable maybe connected directly to the cable box for some reason too.

You could probably do optical to the soundbar then just HDMI from the cable box to the TV for video.

If you want the soundbar for the other inputs I think you need e-ark or something along those lines or hdmi switch.

That’s probably the issue. The soundbar has to be connected to the TV for the audio to switch sources when the TV switches sources.

Look for audio outputs on the TV. If it has an optical out you may be able to just use the same cable.

If not then look for HDMI (ARC) connectors on both the TV and soundbar. That would be the ideal type of connection but it hasn’t been around very long.

If your TV and soundbar don’t share either optical or HDMI (ARC) connectors then you can fall back to analog. There should be either 1/8 inch headphone jacks or pairs of RCA connectors on both the TV and soundbar that can be connected. They’re both line level connections so you can mix and match these (1/8 inch on one end and a pair of RCA on the other).
