Sound skipping with Pulseaudio on Linux Mint 18

I need help getting my sound to not skip every other 5 seconds or so.

I already tried the solution on the arch wiki here and my lfe remixing setting was already set to yes when I went to change it.
Pulseaudio skips or crackling

when I open the pulseaudio mixer gui I get the message "Establishing connection to pulseaudio please" wait every time my audio goes away.

I think the pulse server is crashing but I don't know how to get any useful information besides from the syslog which outputs this.

Aug 2 16:29:29 ##### rtkit-daemon[6456]: Supervising 1 threads of 1 processes of 1 users.
Aug 2 16:29:29 ##### rtkit-daemon[6456]: Supervising 0 threads of 0 processes of 1 users.
Aug 2 16:29:29 ##### rtkit-daemon[6456]: Successfully made thread 6597 of process 5857 (n/a) owned by '1000' RT at priority 5.

I already tried the -v argument but pulse does not output any errors.

Off the top of my head I've no idea. Have you made sure the system ia fully up to date (optional updates included?)

Disable HDMI audio output

Yes I have applied all system updates.

*one quick google search later * Is there a way to do this without disabling kernel modules?

You can also change the buffer size/time in the pulse configs.
