Something's dying

So as long as I can remember since I updated to Windows 8 I've been having some trouble with a certain app. This happens to be the League of Legends game client. Upon launch, it seems like it's using about 100% of my HDD, because my computer freezes for a few seconds. Most of the time I play, it's with friends, and we're usually chatting ( Razer Comms). When the game launches it causes all sound to cut out or be very choppy, to the point where you can't understand anything anyone is saying. (It's like a really bad studdering) I've tried uninstall/reinstall of the game client as well as the built in repair option but nothing seems to fix it. I'm thinking either my hard drive could be going bad or it's for some reason using insanely high resources to launch the game. No other games or applications seem to do this. Also, the game crashes upon loading, after you've selected your champion and are actually loading into the game. It usually doesn't give any error message. It starts to load and then the screen flashes and goes back to desktop and I'm forced to reconnect several times before I actually get into the game. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I even have some game keys I could give away to anyone who could help me fix this issue.

what are your system specs?

Oh, sorry I forgot specs...

FX-8150

16gb Corsair Vengeance ram

XFX Radeon hd 7970 3GB (not lowest, but not GHz edition either)

Asus sabertooth Mobo

I believe it's a Seagate 1TB traditional hard drive

i would suspect a bad hd. are you running out of space?

No, roughly 300gb of space remaining.
