So, my girlfriend's birthday is coming up. Currently, we are sharing a pc (ie she is using mine). I keep thinking that it would be nice to surprise her with a pc all her own, however, I am really unsure about spending the money. My rig has a 280x, so either I could upgrade my gpu and hand her the 280x (which would be nice considering that she loves GTA V), or I could go with something cheaper like a 370 or 7770. If I built her a pc of her own, I would go all AMD, likely the micro ATX 970 Asrock board and an 8350. (Inb4 go intel, I know the numbers, but right now I don't want to buy anything that isn't AMD). Grabbing a 390 for myself would be nice, but I really have been wanting to wait to buy a new gpu until the next round of products as I am predicting that they will be a significant improvement over current stuff. I also want to get a 4k monitor sometime soon, and would need something newer in order to take advantage of the freesync on the Wasabi Mango as the 280x doesn't support it.
Sigh. I want to spend the money, and get us our own personal rigs and everything, but that is a lot of money and we are sharing well enough right now.
So yeah, someone make me see reason........ Someone talk me out of spending money
In all seriousness though, is it hurting you to share your PC? You know what you should do, set a time schedule, "hey you got the PC in the afternoon, i get it at night (no sexual innuendo intended).
I made my wife a pc with an old 650ti I had sitting around and she can play gta5 in some res that's like a notch under 1080p (her monitor doesn't go too high), abd she plays gta5 all the time with it. Well until they rolled out that update that made everyone stutter out the ass. Not sure if its fixed yet, haven't checked in a while
But if you're tight on cash you shouldn't rush a gift like that.
If you have the spending power to do so, I say go for it. If money would be best spent on something else, I would do that instead.
A happy medium might be to sell the R9 280X and allocate the funds towards the new GPU. With Black Friday inching its way here, it might be worth waiting, either way.
If you can get a decent motherboard, nabbing an FX-6300 and giving it a bit of an overclock is a good idea. Otherwise, you can nab an FX-8320E for ~$125 from NCIX - that is a pretty good deal.
As to talking you out of it. She is cheating on you dont spend the money /joke
If you dont need a new PC get her something nice. Doesn't have to be expensive. If I was a girl and my partner upgraded his machine and gave me the hand downs as a present. Not sure it would be a good idea.
Imma going to talk you into this if you don't want to disregard the post.
Right so if you are tight on cash or don't want to spend but really want her own computer to play GTA V.(YES I AM GOING INTEL ON BUDGET YOU MAD BRO?) You can pair a Pentium G3258, MSI H81M-P33 Motherboard for roughly $120 USD, 8gbs RAM for about 40 bucks, A handmedown GPU while you get an upgrade (free?), A CX500 a Cooler Master N200 case which should both cost about 90 bucks and about 50 bucks for a 1TB WD Blue or a Seagate Barracuda for storage.
CPU+MOBO=$120 RAM= $40 Look at Team Ram at the 8gb single stick it will work fine for GTA V Case+PSU= $90 GPU= Most Likely free since its you are probably going to upgrade and giving a handmedown HDD= $50
So you are looking at a total of about $300 bucks without the GPU, inb4 people saying YOU CANT RUN A PENTIUM G3258 WITH GTA V. There is a couple of YouTube vids running a Pentium G3258 on it and it works fine.
Hopefully whe won't want to play farcry 4 then. . . G3258's are fine but the little bit extra to get a locked i5 or xeon really isn't that much in the long run and will go much much farther.
